About Fun2Dance

Hello my name is Eileen Sinclair, I am the owner and principal teacher at Fun2dance.

As a child I just loved anything to do with dance especially watching the Fred Astaire films. At the age of eleven I found The Dorothy Whitbread School of Dancing in Portsmouth, it changed my life.

I enjoy the social rather than the competitive side of dancing. My lessons are all about having fun while you learn. I believe in inclusivity and I’m passionate about creating a welcoming, fun atmosphere for any age, gender or ability whether you are single or a couple. I became professional in Ballroom & Latin Dancing in 2009. I am affiliated to the IDTA (International Dance Teachers Association).

I teach all ten Ballroom and Latin dances plus Salsa, traditional Sequence and fun party dances. I can also choreograph your first wedding dance.

I spent 4 years teaching at Tracie’s Latin Club in Southampton. Then in 2013 I started my own school teaching in Lee on the Solent until Covid hit in 2020. Since then I have concentrated on private lessons. I enjoy teaching on a 1:1 bases, and helping dancers see results much more quickly. I believe teaching couples how to lead and follow is the most important aspect of learning how to dance.

What Our Dancers Say

See how Fun2Dance has brought joy and confidence to our dancers, whether they're just starting out or preparing for a special occasion.

"You are by far the best dance teacher I have had (although I have a rather limited experience of about 8 teachers.) I love your clear, precise style, and the way go through the basic steps of a small part of a dance right through to rise & fall & timing. "

— Eric.

"I don't think I would've stuck with ballroom if it wasn't for your teaching. None of the other ballroom lessons I went to previously managed to keep my interest and just weren't as fun as other styles until I found you. "

— Stewart.

"Linda and I want to thank you for all the perseverance you showed with our lovely wedding dance waltz. The audience loved your choreography and whooped and hollered at all the lifts. Thank you from both of our hearts. Linda is so pleased you encouraged her that she could really do it. We loved it, enjoyed it, and everyone else adored it. "

— Adrian & Linda.

"For me your teaching style is one of the best, you not only teach the steps but also the style of the dance, posture and rise and fall, which was great. Thank you very much."

— Lorraine & Ian

"We both thoroughly enjoyed our first wedding dance, thanks to Eileen's patient and expert guidance. She made us feel so confident on the dance floor!"

— Angie & Nigel K.

"I just wanted to send you a quick email to thank you for your time. I can now clearly see how using dance as part of a rehabilitation program can be very beneficial. Many thanks!"

— Victoria.

"Eileen makes her lessons 'fun to dance'. Endless patience and never makes you feel useless."

— Richard & Sylvia C.

"After having ballroom lessons with Eileen we went on a cruise. The dance instructor remarked how well we must have been taught."

— Stephen & Deborah B.

FAQs

What shoes should I wear?

+

Rubber soled shoes and flip flops are not suitable, something with a smooth sole is better. Ladies may wish to wear a small heel. There is no need to rush out and buy dance shoes, but once you've decided that dancing is for you then I would recommend that you invest in a pair. Outdoor shoes are stiff, they don't allow you to use the balls of your feet and get up onto your toes. Also, dance shoes have a suede sole which assists in twisting and turning. As soon as I put on my dance shoes, my feet are ready to dance.

Do I need to book in advance?

+

Yes, lessons need to be booked in adavnce. Please click on this link to contact me HERE

I have never danced before and feel I have left it too late. Is it worth me starting now?

+

It is never too late to learn to dance. You will just wish you started years ago.

What should I wear?

+

Anything you feel comfortable in. Skirts with no give are not suitable, as you won't be able to stretch your legs.

I don't have a dance partner. Can I still learn to dance?

+

Yes, I can teach you to dance. Lots of single people (men and women) go social dancing and dance with each other. I have never had a dance partner but that didn't stop me wanting to learn something I loved doing. I gained more experience by dancing with many different dancers.

Is private dance instruction available?

+

Yes, private lessons are available and are perfect for couples, individuals, or even small groups looking for focused learning.

Is a private lesson sutiable for a beginner?

+

Yes, you don't need any prior dance experience. You will learn a lot quicker than in a class as we will go at your pace.

Do you teach children?

+

Yes, I am DBS checked but there is plenty of space in the hall for you to sit and watch. You could even join in and learn the steps too.

Jasmine's Magic Dance Shoes

Jasmine's Magic Dance Shoes Book Cover

About the Book

After searching, without success, for a children’s story based on ballroom dancing, I decided to write one myself!

Published in 2019, Jasmine's Magic Dance Shoes is inspired by my friend’s little girl, Jasmine, who started dancing at around 3 yrs old.

It tells the story of Jasmine, who goes to her very first Ballroom dance class.

When she excitedly buys her first pair of dance shoes, she discovers they have a magic power - her dancing improves overnight! Her dance teacher is so impressed that the search begins to find her a dance partner. She is partnered with Ashley, they enter competitions winning lots of trophies. Eventually, they get to dance in a competition at the Blackpool Tower Ballroom but will they win the illustrious trophy?

Me with the real Jasmine Eileen with the real Jasmine

The moral of the story is...if you work hard you can achieve anything you want to do.

As a short story, aimed at 4 - 8 year olds, it is really suitable for children of any age, who are themselves interested in dancing, or just love a story with a twist.

It is about 4000 words, so older children can read it themselves, and younger children can have it read to them.

When I researched children's books about dancing, I found lots of stories about ballet but none about ballroom. Hopefully, this book will fill that gap, and give all the ballroom dancers out there their own story. If you, and your children, love watching Strictly Come Dancing, then this is the book for you, as it will give you an insight into the world of ballroom with a touch of magic.
